Delayed shutdown when pressing the power button on iPhone 16 Pro Max

Hello, when I press the button to turn off my iPhone, it doesn't immediately shut down but after about 1 second. How can I fix this? My model is iPhone 16 Pro Max with iOS 18.6.2.

To completely shut down an iPhone, press and hold the side button together with either the volume up or volume down button. Keep holding both until the screen displays the “slide to power off” slider. Once it appears, place your finger on the slider and drag it from left to right. The device will then begin shutting down, and the screen will go completely dark.

It’s important to note that simply pressing the side (power) button by itself will not turn the iPhone off. A single press only locks the screen and puts the device into sleep mode, which saves battery but keeps the phone powered on and running in the background. To fully turn off the iPhone, you must use the slider method.

Turn off iPhone

  • iPhone with Face ID: Simultaneously press and hold the side button and either volume button until the sliders appear, then drag the Power Off slider.
  • iPhone with the Home button: Press and hold the side button, then drag the slider.
  • All models: Go to Settings  > General > Shut Down, then drag the slider.
