The Mac should adapt to the screen automatically: When doing playback on a screen with just SDR support, the apps would request and send SDR content to the screen. No need for settings adjustments.

Besides… HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR10) is backwards compatible with SDR, so even if the optimized stream isn’t used, it should still do visual playback fine, if the file format itself is compatible.

Are you trying to do online streaming, or playback of a local file?

If you tried to use both screens (built-in and external) with dragging and switching, try limiting the intended app to the intended screen.

If you tried mirroring, try extending (2nd screen) instead.
