Is AppleCare worth it for MacBook Air repairs?

Hi! Do you think it’s worth getting AppleCare on Mac? Also, does AppleCare cover the full cost of repairs or just reduce the amount?

AppleCare+ extends the standard warranty, provides no charge phone support for the length of the contract, and the cost repairs due to accidental damage with a deductible.

For me, it's worth it. I've gotten it on pretty much all of my Apple devices since it became available. I've only had to use it once and that was severe years ago on a phone with a broken display.

This is a question seeking opinions. Such questions are not permitted in the Apple Support Communities. Make your own purchase decision.

For each repair, these fees may apply.

$99 for screen or enclosure accidental damage

$299 for other accidental damage

FYI, these are the accidental damage costs associated with AC+ coverage.

However, while @sberman has provided the information exactly as written in the AC+ coverage page (for the US), it is actually a bit off because of the terminology (Apple really is not good with documentation).

It is better to think of it like this:

$99US For accidental damage to the Display Assembly

$299US For accidental damage to any other part of the laptop other than the Display Assembly.....aka the base of the unit which has the Top Case/Keyboard/Palmrest Assembly & everything within it.

$398US For accidental damage to the Display Assembly and any accidental damage to any other part of the laptop (aka the base of the unit).

The last line regarding the $398US is implied in the AC+ documentation, but never clearly stated (or at least this was the case for the AC+ documentation several years ago). I can confirm through personal experience this information is accurate as I have written it.

As for whether it is worthwhile, depends on each individual's assessment of the up front costs, accidental damage risks, additional accidental repair costs which I've explained here, the likelihood the laptop will fail where the free warranty coverage will play a part....accidental damage will usually be applied because many laptops will show significant amounts of physical "abuse" that a tech may be class it as accidental damage. Read through the AC+ documentation....not just the summary information listed on the AC+ website.....download the actual AC+ Terms/Agreement so you understand it.

As for me......I gave up paying for any extended warranties for anything decades ago for multiple reasons. At least Apple is better at honoring warranties and AC+ coverage than most other manufacturers
