Delete trash from external drive without deleting trash from internal drive.

I'm going to answer my own question after much frustration from incorrect (older software) solutions and rants on why anyone would want to do this. I do make mistakes and sometime want to check something. But I also want to make sure USB drives I give out don't have data lurking when I share them.

I found its rather easy to delete trash from a single drive (actually volume). I am using OS Sequoia 15.6.

To delete trash on an external drive without deleting trash from internal drive.

  1. Open the trash.
  2. GROUP the files by volume.
  3. Select and delete all the file in the volume.

Mac mini, 15.6

Interesting idea and should work 👍

Provided, the user can clearly Identify which file was deleted from the USB Drive versus the file Deleted from the Internal Drive

To avoid confusion and/or accidental deleting files that you want to keep.

1) The trash is for files that you want to get rid of right now.

It is not a temporary storage archive for internal or external drive files.

If you are not sure you want to keep or delete a file, then it should not be put into the trash.

2) If you copy a file to an external drive, then the file will be on both the internal and external drive.

If you move a file to an external drive, then that only leaves you with one file on the external drive.

Delete trash from external drive without deleting trash from internal drive.
