Honestly, it takes a while for "Review" to pop up, and it only reviews pictures that have "unnamed" on them. If, after a day, the faces don't have "unnamed," on them, they won't be recognized in the future--there's no point in waiting.
It's very hard.
I just transferred 1550 pictures of me to a brand new fresh Library. After 18 hours (with the computer on and Photos not being used,) it had about 1000 of me named, and about 50 of me that were "unnamed." It found 10 differnet faces. I tried "Review," and it found, I think, 6 more of me. I named the rest of the me "unnamed," so now there are about 1050 named me, and there are about 500 with me in them but without my face being recognized. I haven't counted yet, by certainly in most of these my face is turned or otherwise unrecognizable. But in lots of them, it's really a mystery why they went unrecognized. I have near duplicates in which my face was recognized in one but not the other. There are motion blurs and out of focus faces that get recognized but, to me, perfectly clear ones that don't.
It must be very, very hard.
While messing with this I again wondered why I would go through and manually add names. I use names as keywords, so manually adding face names (where it's not "unnamed") doesn't enhance searches. Manually adding face names doesn't help in finding new faces or in identifying old faces. People albums don't offer anything over Smart Albums. Why do I do it?
So far, 3 reasons:
- For groups of pictures with people I won't recognize next year. This is really valuable.
- It's embarrassing to have a picture with everybody named except me.
- It's embarrassing to show someone a picture with everybody named except them.
