Error Code 8076 - What to Do?
Tried to backup my current document files, from my new 2025 MacBook Air M4 to my 5-year-old Lacie 2TB backup drive (FAT32), which had been used successfully with my 2019 MBP16 (with Intel chip). I kept getting "Error Code 8076". Apple Finder would allow me to "Resume Copy" for individual folders, and the process would restart. However, it would only finish about half the time. Had to repeatedly restart some (larger) folders, and a few never would finish the copy process. Gave up, saved my old backups on my Lacie drive, onto my new MacBook Air SSD (no problem to copy in that direction). Used Finder to erase the Lacie drive, reformatting it to Apple File System (APFS). Then, I easily moved 180 GB of new and old backup files to the reformatted Lacie drive, with no "Error Code 8076". So, that problem appears to be "solved". My question to community "experts"; is my problem actually solved?? Or do I misunderstand and fail to recognize a larger issue? Thanks!
