Is there anything I can do about Trade In Damaged after Shipping??

I decided to purchase a new iPad was given a trade in value on my old one for $80 which was fine so sent it in, when I put it in the box for transit it was in a case and well kept, a couple of days after they received I get an email that I will get $0 for my trade in because it was bent, annoyed I declined the trade in and requested they return my iPad, when I received it back, it was in fact bent, not in the case I sent it to them in and had sticky stuff all over the back. I have no idea what they did to this pad. It was always kept in a hard cover case the entire time I owned it, which due to the damage I am pretty sure won't work for it anymore. Now I am out $80 for the trade in and the cost of a new case since they didn't bother to return that either. So frusterated first time I have used this program and am absolutely regretting my decision.

When sending a device fot trade-in, you should not send any accessories - including fitted cases. Any included accessories will be removed and discarded when received by Apple's trade-in partner. If the trade-in is rejected and subsequently returned, nothing other than the device will be returned to you.

This is stated within Apple's trade-in documentation.

As for the fitted case, some are very tight when fitted. Unless removed from the fitted case with some care - the method for safe removal potentially differing between manufacturers - damage to the "protected" device can occur. While purely speculative, this might explain why your iPad suffered damage between leaving you for its trade-in assessment - and its subsequent return to you.

For future reference, many customers choose to trade-in at an Apple Store in preference to the mail-in option. This method removes risk of transit or handling damage. The assessment is completed in-store in your presence; the condition is verified and the trade-in value agreed before you leave the store with the trade-in value refunded by way of an Apple Gift card that can be spent as you wish against a future purchase, or as instant in-store credit for a purchase made in-store. This method of trade-in provides peace of mind.
