My hard drive is showing more usage than expected on MacBook Pro

I want to clear hard drive space and followed the common procedures to do so. however app storage is telling me I have 128gb of usage but when I open up the app tap It is only showing around 10gb used. There isn't anything there to delete to free up space on the hard drive.

I have been using Final Cut Pro and even deleted the program to see what happens and that only freed up the 6gb of space that it uses. if this has created hidden files I can't seem to locate them.

any help would be appreicded.

Free up storage space on Mac - Apple Support

The info in System Settings > General > Storage is not always reliable. As one example relevant to your post, on my work Mac my Applications shows as ~280 GB. 200 GB of that is a large cache file in the ~/Library folder for the cloud storage system that we use. Outlook email attachments stored in ~/Library are a frequent culprit that shows up in System Data.

Those are just examples, everyone’s usage will differ.

The question does arise

Why is it necessary to delete FCP or any other applications in order to " Freeing up hard drive space " ??

Once that question is answered, we may be able to move forwards with this perceived issue
