New 2025 MacBook Air - 8062 file copy errors

On my 2021 MacBook Pro, I could copy all (35) my desktop folders to an external drive

New 2025 MacBook Air same process yields 8062 errors - same external drive, tons of open space

First folder copies fine, subsequent folders fail - no matter what the first folder I copy / paste is - first one works, so not permissions, etc.

Same MacOS level on old and new Macs - 15.6.1

Seems like a SW (I/O) issue with new MacBook Air

Any ideas before I call AppleCare?? - Thanks

All, I do appreciate the replies and ideas - have tried or eliminated all the suggestions - as a ex IBM systems programmer maintaining and modifying mainframe operating systems, I firmly believe this is something to do with the BIOS on the MacBook Air - but cannot figure it out - I will talk to Level 2 at AppleCare and report back - thanks again

Sorry to call this out but it needs to be said

Apple computers do not have a traditional BIOS but instead use Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) firmware

One may reconsider there position on this matter

If after exhausting all Options and the user is still in the belief that the EFI Boot ROM is the root cause of this issue

Please read all the inform before proceeding

One wrong step in the order they are presented could Brick the machine

" DFU Firmware Restore. Unfortunately this procedure requires access to another Mac currently running macOS 15.x Sequoia. This procedure will reset the security enclave chip, system firmware, and internal SSD as well as pushing a clean copy of macOS onto the internal SSD. "

Don't have the IT background of most posters here so I'm posting in the event it advances the cause in anyway. Running into a similar problem with brand new 2025 MacBook Air. I have an iCloud Drive "Documents" folder containing approx. 30GB data, that is set to "keep downloaded" on both MBAir and my iPad Pro. I also have a Samsung T7 SSD formatted APFS for an occasional extra back-up.

If I try and copy the "Documents" folder from MBAir to SSD, it fails every time with 8062 error. If I copy the folder from iPad Pro to SSD, it works every time. USB-C connections in all cases.

Hey Rob, frustrating, I know

However, I just bought a new Seagate 2 TB drive and formatted it to APFS, and IT WORKED

I copied my 10 GB desktop (27 folders) with no errors and also just copied my 20GB Documents folders to that new drive

No clue why one drive worked and others with same folders from my 2021 MacBook failed with the 8062

BUT, for now, I have eliminated the problem with that new drive - nothing else changed, just the new target drive

Wishing the good luck resolving your issue - wish I could help you

(1) Did you note the reply from Owl-53 citing BdAqua ... relating to files in the cloud needing to be downloaded before copied?

(2) Have you tried drag/drop copies instead of copy/paste?

P.S. Now I see you may have resolved the issue with a new drive but the other one should work with drag/drop.

Unfortunately, OP may have been working with the incorrect premise " I firmly believe this is something to do with the BIOS on the MacBook Air "
