System Preferences window won't go away

I have recently changed my Apple password and after the change my System Preferences window displayed "Some account services will not be available until you sign in again." Clicking on the "Continue" button brings up a scrolling icon, which does nothing and will not go away or allow me to continue until I Force Close System Preferences. It's back again as soon as I go back. Any thoughts/assistance please??
