The usual reason for SUM not working as expected is that the "numbers" being summed are text, not actual numbers. This has not changed in any updates of Mac OS or Numbers but the update to Numbers 14.4 did change how range references work in some instances and it breaks some older formulas when it "upgrades" them. Version 14.4 introduced "array" functions so range references might now result in an array of results that "spill" down/across into other cells. It also introduced the @ operator to distinguish if a range reference such as B means the entire column or just the one cell in the same row as the formula (@B means just the one cell). It misinterprets or incorrectly upgrades some formulas so rewriting/fixing the broken formulas is sometimes necessary. SUM(B2,C10,D13) or SUM(B) or SUM(B2:B10) work as they always have.

Hopefully something I wrote above was useful for the problem you are having. "Not working" is not vey descriptive of the problem.
