Emails that I delete on my computer aren't deleted on my phone

I just got a new iPhone 16 and transferred everything from my iPhone X. But now when I delete an email on my computer in gmail, it's not deleted on my phone in the Apple Mail app. On my old phone, it always synced with no issue. I have read that it needs to be IMAP but I don't know how to check that or how to change it, if that is even the problem. How do I fix this?
