Accessory (charger) got lost during shipping my Macbook to Apple for trade-in

I recently submit a trade-in request for my Macbook Pro and got the instruction to mail it back. Per the instruction, I should just need to erase the laptop and bring it and any accessories (in my case the charger) to the shipping partner (I used Fedex), and they will help pack them up and send off.

However I got the email that the trade in has been cancelled because the device is not as described. When the laptop was returned to me, the charger was missing. I'm 100% sure I gave Fedex both my Macbook and the charger.

Is there any way to confirm whether Apple received the charger in the first place? If the loss happened with FedEx, what should I do in this case?

Where did you learn that? Prepare your Mac laptop for trade in - Apple Support instructs us to omit the power adapters and everything else:

  • Don’t include anything else in the box, like a case, power adapter, cables, or other accessories. If you do, they won’t be returned to you.

I think you're out of luck.

I would hang on to charger, cords, 3-prong extensions. It is not required for trade-in.

That's what I do, at least with modern power adapters. I did recently have Apple recycle some older Macs, and with those I also gave them the power adapters though I'm not sure if they'll actually recycle them. They were L-type and T-type original MagSafe adapters with the integrated cords, and even an old PowerBook charger with the barrel connector. Fun times.

I do have the Apple Power Extension Cables that came with them, they're in a box with a few of their mates from when Apple included them. I do use several of them (useful for connecting multiple adapters to a power strip in a power cable box).
