iPad Won't Turn Back On After Powering Off

On 25 August I was having minor troubles with the speed of my iPad on the web. Websites were loading slowly when I was trying to do research for my writing, with some having only halfway loaded according to the blue strip in the searchbar. When I usually have troubles like this, I refresh the page and it gets going again. This time, it didn't. I then opted to switch it off properly in an attempt to quicken the iPad's pace by holding down the power button and swiping right on the screen. I give it 20 seconds before trying to turn it on again by the power button. Nothing happens. I try this a few times before attempting a forced restart using both the power and home buttons. No signs of life still. The iPad itself had a decent amount of charge left before it devolved into its deep, dreary slumber, 68% or so. I suspect there has been hardware failure, but if so, an extremely rare case of it. Since, as far as I know, iPads don't just conk out like that. Guidance would be much appreciated from anybody with the expertise to know what has transpired here.

iPad, iPadOS 17

I agree. The battery may have failed. I had an iPad mini 4 who's battery had failed that showed a decent charge and then would simply power off. The battery percentage would show a value that was clearly not what the battery was capable of providing to the device. Putting it on the charger would power it on and "charge it" when in reality, it was not being charged properly because of the failed battery.

As IdrisSeabright mentioned, put it on the charger and see if it will knock some sense into it and power it on. If it powers on with the charger connected, there's a good chance that the battery has failed, even though the device shows that it's charging and may have good charge level.

Regardless of the outcome, it appears there is some hardware failure in the device, be it the battery or some other fault that would require evaluation by Apple as recommended by sberman in his post above.
