upgrade storage for an iMac -- possible?

I have an iMac (24 in, M1, 2021) with 256 GB of solid state storage. Is it possible to increase this storage to say 500 GB or even 1 TB?

You cannot increase the amount of internal storage on that Mac after purchase. You can buy external SSDs and store some of your data on them.

Yes. As Servant of Cats mentioned get an external SSD.

If budget is a concern this setup is economical:

I have several of the 1 TBs and a one 4 TB for Time Machine and they work exceptionally well. Otherwise look for one at OWC (MacSales.com) in their own enclosure. It will cost a bit more.
