when I log in the folders have change size and location on the MACBook Air
When I log in my desktop folders have move and are resized. What is up with that? I am the only person on the MBAir.

Click on your desktop and then Command J will open the contextual menu: make some changes
I would only log out if you have some compelling reason. Simply close the lid and let the mac sleep, open the lid and pick up where you left off.
