Adobe Acrobat Crashes/Freezes while using Mac or iOS Operating Systems

Has anyone encountered the following Adobe error message while trying to open a PDF document in Acrobat Pro on your Mac or mobile device using any version of iOS? "Unable to open PDF. Something Went Wrong. A running instance of Acrobat has caused an error."

Have any of you Mac users had problems in opening Adobe Acrobat Pro (problems=crashes, freezes, unable to edit, save, print any PDF document).

Adobe support forums point to possible solutions/workarounds, but all of them are specific to Windows systems. I'm curious whether anybody in the Apple/iOS/Mac OS world is having similar problems with Adobe PDF documents.

Have you tried restarting the computer?

If a simple restart doesn't help, then try booting into Safe Mode to see if you can open the PDF.

Third test is to create a new macOS user account. Log out of your current macOS user account and log into the new user account. See if you can open the PDF from the new user account. If it only occurs with specific PDFs, then you will need to put a copy of the PDF into the new user account or in the "/Users/Shared" folder.
