Podcasts app on Sequoia no longer automatically downloading episodes

I have macOS 15.6.1 on an M4 macbook pro, though I have been having this problem prior to the macOS upgrade as well. I have my podcasts settings set to automatically download the 3 latest episodes per show. Some of my per-show podcast settings vary to two latest or something. However none of my podcasts at all are downloading the latest episodes, whether I refresh feeds or not. I have been manually downloading each episode that I want to transfer to my ipod classic, but that's hardly ideal
