Private Relay - my broadband 'isn't compatible - sometimes

Recently, I keep getting the two message boxes below about my broadband named 6# 'not being compatible' with Private Relay. Often right after a reboot.

But most of the time it is compatible, because it frequently works fine.

Same thing on my M2 Mac mini and M1 MacBook Air.

I'm running Malwarebytes VPN and AdGuard Transparent Proxy on both Macs, disconnecting one or both of them has no effect at all on the Private Relay status.

macOS's and apps are latest versions.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

For issues with Private Relay turn it off.

I have _never_ turned it on... and never had an issue:

I agree with the above—Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

Third party AntiVirus is not recommended— it typically does nothing but add issues to the macOS and competes directly with Apple’s own built in security

Thanks everybody! 👏

I've been doing some tests based on your comments. This is what worked for me...

Ad blocker* - Wipr 2

  • It doesn't screw up Private Relay like AdGuard or AdGuard for Safari
  • It works very well with Blocklists 1 - 4 enabled - Wipr Extra needs turning off on some websites as it somehow allows more adverts to show, mostly the ones in the spaces around the website itself. It remembers the settings, so it only needs doing once.
  • It's also amazing value for money.

VPN - NordVPN

  • When at home on my trusted internet connection it can be off automatically, and then turn on automatically when away from home.
  • This allows Private Relay to do its job.
  • It also allows me to see "Live" images from my Home app cameras, which VPNs prevent.

So, I'm happy - clean websites, Private Relay is active, Home cameras can be viewed without having to turn off a VPN, and automatic VPN enablement when away from my known and trusted internet connection at home.

* Wouldn't it be great if Apple went that extra mile and got Hide Distracting Items to work as intelligently as little Wipr 2...
