Locations of Photos Not Showing

The locations of my photos have not been populating, for months now. My settings show that the geotags *should* be populating, and I’ve turned off FaceID to access hidden images and albums as mentioned in another community post, as well as doing a force restart. Neither of these have worked. What do I do?

See this AI Post by Google: photos locations not showing

Seeing the Location:

  1. Open: the photo in the Photos app.
  2. Tap: the ellipses on the top-right corner of the photo.
  3. Tap: Show Map (bottom item)

I tried what you suggested, but this option doesn’t appear on my menu (ellipses), I’ve done a force restart, changed FaceID settings, toggled all the settings off and back on again. I’m not sure what else to do.

Well, I know I've seen "Show Map" before, but I'm not sure where. Just to be clear, this is where the "More" button is when viewing a picture.

I don't have "Show Map" here.

I'm unclear on what you mean by "not been populating." Do you mean syncing to other devices, or do you just mean you don't see the location in the Info Window, or you don't see it in the Maps view, or what?

When I press the Info Button ( i ) I see this:

What do you see?

Hi there- I do have this ellipse menu, and I have seen locations on my photos as recent 2023. Somehow, since then, I have not had any locations populate for any of my photos. I've tried turning off FaceID for albums (a suggestion I found on another apple thread), and my location settings seem correct. I'd like to be able to look at the map in the photos app and see photos populate but I'm not sure what else I can do.

The word "populate" is still getting me. Are you saying that, as far as you can tell, the camera is not recording the GPS location coordinates? (The Face ID thing blows me away-- why would that have anything to do with Maps?)

If you go to Pinned Collections>Maps, do you see pictures on the Map?

(Map can move around-- you may have to go to Modify to make it show)

Well, that's telling. I don't think that there's anything we can suggest here. It sounds like a hardware problem, and that means repair. If you got the 14 when it first came out, then a 3 year Apple Care may soon expire. A 1 year warranty is gone, though. How much do you want locations?

Good Luck!
