Sequoia 15.5 broke the Terminal app

Terminal App does not work as it used to, and many of my custom profiles disappeared.

  1. Shell -> new Window : doesn't open a profile in a new window, but rather in a new _tab_ of the most recently selected window. If I wanted a new tab, I would have selected: Shell -> new Tab
  2. New Window opens a tab in the existing window, and forcefully resizes the entire window to the row/column values for that profile. Opening a New Tab does not resize the window. So someone really f'd up here.
  3. Missing profiles. Not all, but many of my profiles that I created in the last year are missing. These profiles don't show up in a backup, so perhaps these profiles were not saved in a previous version?

I see no change in Terminal in any release of Sequoia through 15.6. Even if I (unusual for me) have an existing tab open in Terminal, choosing Shell > New Window > New Window with Profile -- IR Black still opens a new Terminal window using the stated profile characteristics. You should revisit your Terminal Settings because the solution will be in there.

Terminal profiles are stored in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist, not as separate entities, and this plist does get backed up by Time Machine. Just confirmed it. If you exported any Terminal profiles as *.terminal then their preservation would be where you put them, and I would expect if on the same drive, that Time Machine would hoover them too. So nothing should be lost…
