APP STORE approval text scam making the rounds again

I just want to inform the Apple community that the APP STORE scam is making the rounds again as of Aug 19, 2025. I just received the following (yes, I know it is a scam - notice the poorly worded sentence):

Your Apple ID was used at "APP STORE" for $184.30. To ensure your safety we had hold payment for approval. If it's not you then contact support at 1858*****.

The contact number is a link. Letting everyone know again, don't click the link. Have a great day!

Yep, they will continue as long as people fall for it. I still get the FedEx scams for the last 8 years claiming a package could not be delivered to my address and wanting me to click a link or call a number.

It really is simple to not be a victim, and that is to NEVER call a number or click a link and provide any personal information. There are always legitimate ways to contact a company without using one provided in that email/message. That is true whether it appears to be from Apple, a Bank, FedEx, or any other company, where each have known contact information available to you in order to verify the information provided.

Making the rounds again? They have NEVER stopped and they likely will never stop. As long as people fall for scams, they'll continue. People have to be vigilant and recognize scams. Sadly, there are lot of gullible people out there.

Just today, I have supposedly purchased an iPhone 16 Pro Max and a MacBook Pro. I just block and delete such idiocies.

As others have stated, those efforts have not stopped, and — absent disincentives sufficient to send the perpetrators into other forms of miscreance — won’t ever stop.

Some very nice-looking Amazon credentials phishing has newly appeared around here too, while both the ongoing and well-done AT&T credentials phishing, and the “pervert” solicitation, have been in remission locally.

Our telecommunications infrastructure is in a shambles. (Recent efforts toward requiring people to present identification for network connections isn’t going to help with this mess, and — as currently designed — is likely to only make the mess worse, too.)

Within Phone app, the checkmark shown below and the spam risk tag, both where available, are both part of efforts to reduce the volume of arriving rubbish.
