volume in jbl flex earbuds way to low on macbook air

I am trying to use JBL Flex earbuds to watch and listen to a movie I downloaded onto my 2023 15" macbook air using OS Ventura 13.4.

If I play the movie using the computer speakers, it seems fine. But since I was on a plane I wanted to use the earbuds. But I could barely hear. I have gone through the computer sound settings and the volume is all the way to max, but the output is so low I can't pick up the dialogue.

Please help.

P.S. The volume to the earbuds from my iphone SE is also pretty low. But at least I can make out the dialogue
