Black screen when trying to watch Apple TV on MacBook Pro M3

Hi everyone,

I have a MacBook Pro M3 and I’m subscribed to the Apple One Premier plan, which gives me access to the Apple TV app. When I try to watch a series on my Mac, the screen stays completely black. The subtitles appear, but the video itself doesn’t show up.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Phil0124, thanks for the quick reply! With the extra displays disconnected, the Apple TV app works fine. However, I noticed that when I connect my iPad as an external display, the video goes black. I also have another question: when I try to watch Crunchyroll in the browser, I get the same black screen issue — but in this case, not even the subtitles show up. Have you ever seen something like this?

The playback won't work from the Mac to the iPad yes. I'm guessing by design, since the iPad already has access to the Apple TV app and can play anything you want directly.

For the Browser it may work the same way since it's not the main display and it prevents playing. Can't say that I've encountered that though. Had not tried ton play video from my Mac onto an iPad before, and yes now that I have tried it stays in black.

If it works without the iPad connected and with other displays then it's a specific restriction with the iPad and copy right to prevent piracy and unauthorized recording.
