why does my old iMac not show in Air Drop to my new one?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.13
Have you tried basics such as restarting each device and then retesting or restarting in Safe Mode??
Try to go into airdrop settings on your new mac, change the settings for everyone for 10 minutes and se if the issues persist
In regards to rkaufmann87's suggestion do a hard reset on the iPhone:
To hard reboot (force restart) an iPhone, you need to quickly press and release the volume up button, then the volume down button, and then press and hold the side button (also known as the power button) until the Apple logo
Thanks Nick, the new one is on "everyone" but it still can't see it (it's about 12 ft away) but it can see the iPad OK
