Spotify and podcast playback issues on CarPlay with stable maps connection

I have rebooted my phone; forgotten this device (wifi dongle) and re-paired via Bluetooth. Carplay connects to my phone and I can get maps but if I connect to Spotify or podcasts I can see the play screen but as soon as I click on play it immediately goes to pause. I have bought a second wifi dongle buty the issue persists.
