Handwriting Chinese input method, drawing problem

When using the handwriting chinese input method, the trackpad is never NOT drawing. Which makes it effectively impossible to write, let alone choose a character from the bar above. My wife has the same problem with her own laptop, so at least I know I'm not alone, but I didn't find any other people having this problem here or anywhere on the Net.

Thanks in advance if someone has a solution!
