I have tried all the suggested remedies to alter the permissions on my external G Raid 4 tb and a Samsung 4tb ssd but to no avail. Anybody got any got any ideas?

Are these external drives used for Time Machine backups?
TM b/u drive volumes are by default 'read only' and cannot be changed.
What is the current format of these drives and what are you using them for?
Did you install any drive utilities that were shipped with these drives?

yes I loaded
utilities as you can see. thanks I seem to be able to load stuff now!
