Slideshow Text does not delete - it deletes the first photo instead

I do not want text in my slideshow project (there are 300 photos). So I right click and "Delete Text". Instead of the text, it deletes the first photo. That is not what I expect. Here is a video.

On occassion, i can delete the text, but if I toggle themes, the text comes back only to not be deleted again 👎

The first slide of the slideshow will always have a title with the name of the slideshow as a text overlay. The name will be created from the name of the album you used to create the slideshow.

As a work-around: Instead of deleting the added title slide you can click into the textfield with the name and replace it by a single space character, so no text will show. This new invisible name of the slideshow will be preserved when you switch to a different theme.

You can let Apple know what you need here:

Feedback - Photos - Apple

Here's a hint: when you ask someone for help, Apple, or anybody, really, you're more likely to get results by being polite and serious, and  stating your concern without emotional outburst. I would leave out words like "janky" and insulting emojis-- just state your needs clearly. They (or we) can choose to ignore posts that don't seem serious.

Sure…but it’s so janky. Why offer “delete” if it doesn’t work and instead deletes other slides after the text slide?

It works for me on a Mac Mini M4 running Sequoia:

Have you installed and run any "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus or VPN apps on your Mac?

Try the following: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

You also might try rebuilding the library by opening it with the Option+Command keys held down.

Thank you for the suggestions. I am also running on Sequoia 15.6, Macbook Pro. I have no VPNs or other "cleaning" type apps installed. However, this issue exists on my partners machine also, so I am confident it's more that a single user issue.

I was able to work around for the event I needed this for...i don't forsee a need anytime soon, so hopefully the next time it works out better.

Slideshows seem no longer to be Apple's priority. On the mobile devices (iPhone, iPad) they have been replaced by the Memories. For the Vision Pro there have never been slideshows at all in the Photos.app, only Memories, right from the beginning. And on the Mac there are known bugs with respect to the slideshows on the Mac that have not been fixed since macOS 10.15 Catalina. For example, videos included in the slideshows will only play for four seconds, unless we use one of the themes Classic or Magazine. Live Photos are only still frames during a slideshow. I would not hold my breath that apple will fix the bug with the text slides soon.

I have given up on the slideshow feature and are creating my slideshows with Keynote, so they are the same on all devices and are syncing with iCloud between my Apple devices.

That is a shame-- a slide show seems an obvious and relatively simple application that's a natural part of an image manager. I especially miss the no-frills slideshow that just gives an overview of the album's pictures as they are edited and cropped.

I suppose I will once again make my feelings known here:

It seems to sometimes work…
