Google Mail Messages not being sent/received

I have an active Google mail account showing in my internet accounts on my MacBook Pro. I don't use it much - it was last used some 3 months ago.

However, now that I wish to use it I note that it does not display emails sent TO it and, for outgoing test messages that I have attempted, I see the numbers of messages under Outbox but nothing is displayed and consequently nothing is being sent out. Any advice/clues/remedies would be much appreciated.

Remove and re add the account.

If that doesn't fix it reach out to google support or look at their help site
