Not receiving or hearing messages when phone is locked , iPhone 8+

I have googled and have worked on this for ever !! I’d phone is locked ? Nothing ! Doesn’t even light up letting me know anything . Unlock the phone and it shows I have however many notifications . Now , it phone is unlocked and on Home Screen text messages will sound and show ho they’re from !! My husband thinks I’m just answering him but I have no idea anything has taken place until I just so happen to use my phone !! Help ☹️☹️

If your phone is unlocked, notifications will be delivered to your phone.
