iPad Mini 18.6 passcode defaulting to immediately despite changing settings

How to alter Passcode timing

[Re-Titled by Moderator]

Original Title: i have a new ipad mini 18.6 and the passcode is defaulted to immediately. I have deleted my fingerprint and set the timing to 15 minutes but on resetting the fingerprint it defaults back to immediately.

This is fully expected and is potentially misleading. You can still control the Auto-Lock timing from elsewhere in device Settings:

Settings > Display & Brightness & Passcode > Auto-Lock - set as required

Any iOS/iPadOS device that has TouchID or FaceID enabled will have the corresponding Require Password settings automatically set to Immediately. This is otherwise not a configurable parameter:

Settings > TouchID | FaceID > Require Passcode > Immediately
