Disney movies not switching to Dolby Vision in 4K SDR setting on Apple TV

Hi All,

I had to perform the update via the App Store and my Apple TV is now turning on 24hz and Dolby Vision.

Happy Days..

PS. My ROKU 4K is currently as was, eg DV is turning on but frame rate is still 60hz.

I have the same issues with Disney+ and it used to work fine, now I also have a ROKU HD stick that supports DV. Disney+ also has issues here, DV works but the refresh rate stays at 60fps and is somewhat jittery. So, as Potig has commented it looks to me like a recent update to the app is generally broken and not just on one platform.

I updated the Apple TV to IOS26 first and tested the Disney APP and the issues persisted. Then updated the Disney APP from the store, showed up as an update. All appears OK now.

Same. Work's all fine with Netflix, prime, Apple tv+.

Got in contact with Disney.. Told me to talk to apple support 🤔

Re install closing app or changing display modes doesn't help. Stuck in 4K 60hz SDR

Same issue here, I noticed DV wasn't working on Disney about 4 weeks ago, went on the next day and it was working again. 2 weeks ago I went on to check and noticed it was not working again and has not since for about 2.5 weeks now. Called Disney and they said they would look into it, said they would reach out to apple and I told them DV works on all other apps, Netflix Prime and apple tv so not sure if apple is the problem. DV works fine on the LG app on our TV so it is not our internet or account settings.

Same thing here, I noticed it DV wasn't working and only when using Disney+. Contacted them, went through all the troubleshooting steps, removed the app, reinstall the app etc. Didn't get it fixed and said they would log it for internal review.

Hi everyone. I am sure someone has posted this but just in case. If you set your Apple tv to Dolby vision instead of 4k sdr you will get Marvel, films & it seems Disney original series but that's it. Now this worked for me last night so don't shoot me if doesn't for you, just trying to help. Come on Disney if I can sort something out surely you can🤪

The problem with doing that is you are forcing the content to Dolby vision, if it's not being streamed from Disney in DV it most likely won't look as it should from what I have read, may look good but not correct. You are forcing a non Dolby vision stream to Dolby vision, from what I have read this will make the color, contrast/gamma etc to show incorrectly. You can do this to all content on Apple TV even standard HD programs but it not is not recommended as it won't display correctly.

Hi Misskittyb. Wow didn’t realise it was on more than one platform, very interesting. I can use Webos no problems but on Apple TV nothing, Atmos works but not DV. Should be fixed this time next year🤣 Thanks for the post👍

There was an update available today 09/15/25, for the Disney + app on Apple TV 4K. I updated the app and I am now able to get Apple TV 4K auto switching to Dolby Vision on the Disney + app.

Exactly the same thing here. LG OLED, Netflix and Apple TV switch into DV but Disney doesn’t. Been fine up until now. Really annoying as you pay for DV 4K with Disney.

For me the issue apparently started after one of the "Disney Plus" app updates on my Apple TV 4K about a month ago was working before that update.

Still not working here. August 28th, been about 3 weeks now. Apple 4K TV newest model.

I think you will find you can have it on Dolby vision or SDR 4K doesn't make a lot of difference. This is also a temporary thing until Disney+ get there act together🤪 but I do take your point👍
