I am trying to clean out shared albums. How to save shared albums that I created while maintaining the integrity as an album. I do not see an option to share selected photos to an album, only to another shared album.

The pictures in a "Shared Albums" are actually low resolution copies of the originals, suitable for viewing on a screen but not so great for printing, zooming, or editing. Here, the picture on the left is the original, and the one on the right is from its "Shared Album."
Notice that the original is 8000 pixels across, and the shared picture is less than 3000 pixels across. Location information is lost, as well as keywords, captions, and titles.
So, if you are the creator of the Shared Album you are way better off working with the original pictures which should be in your Photos Library.
That said, if you really want to save these lower quality pictures, you can Select All, Choose More (•••), then Add to Album, then +, Name, and tap Create.

For me, this is not working, Richard. when I select some photos in a Shared alum, I have only the option to add them to another Shared album, but not to an album in my Library. I have first to save the selected photos (to Photos), and then I can select the saved copies in the library and add them to an album. earlier versions of Photos allowed to to add photos from a shared album to an album in the library. This would automatically import the photos from the Shared album to the library.

Well drat! I did this on my Mac (and there you can do it like I said, with "New Album with Selection,") and then I went to my phone to see if the same parts were there in those menus. But apparently I missed the "shared album" part. On my Mac I now have an album named "temp shared copy," and of course, it's now everywhere else. Boy, the OSs can be so close, but not quite the same!
How can I save a shared album I created as a regular album in Photos?
