Is there an update planned to correct the clock from defaulting to “World Clock” instead of “Alarms”?
I hazard a guess that most people use the alarms, and fewer use the World Clock.

I always open from the main Clock app, which will default to the last screen. I don't use a widget for clock, so I can't tell you about how it works. However, it seems you have found the widget works differently than the actual Clock app.
I’m not seeing the issue on my end. If I select the Alarm tab, the Click app will reopen on the Alarm tab the next time I use the app.
I’d suggest quitting the Clock app (Quit and reopen an app on iPhone - Apple Support) and reopen it. Quitting the Click app and restarting your iPhone might also help.
I tried closing and restarting the Clock… no matter where I leave it when I close it, it reopens on World Clock. It never used to do this up until about a month or so ago…
I did a screen recording but it won’t let me upload it here… says it’s an invalid YouTube address… :/
Also, it started doing this on my old phone, iPhone 14… I upgraded to a 16 two weeks ago and it’s the same, so turning off and restarting doesn’t help… I’ve done that many times recently while setting everything up. :)
How are you trying to open the Clock app to get to World Clock?

the app icon defaults to last screen, so if I close on alarms, it opens on alarms.
so it’s a widget issue?
Additionally, if the widget is 2x2, it defaults to world clock… if I make the widget a normal 1x1 icon, it defaults to last screen …

Aha, you’re accessing from the widget.
If you access the default app icon, it also goes to “Last Used.”
So my question should now be: How do u get the Clock Widget to default to Alarms rather than World Clock!?

The "Alarm" widget (from the Clock app) is only available on the Lock Screen, not from Home Screen. Edit the Lock Screen, add the Clock Widget and select the Alarm view.
