MacOS Safari keeps replacing my bookmarks

After setting up my Bookmarks in Safari (Favorites etc..), within a few minutes Safari has replaced them ALL with something resembling default bookmarks !! How do I stop this? What is the step by step procedure to do it ?? Thanks in advance..
