Error 06B4.000 after failed 18.6 upgrade, Apple Devices then fails to restore.

An error 06B4.000 appeared after a failed 18.6 upgrade, Apple Devices then failed to restore the device. I fortunatly had an old PC with iTunes still loaded and that restored the iPad.

Why did this error occur?

Why coudn't Apple Devices restore the device when iTunes could?

I have but although there is plenty of speculation, there is

no definitive reason for this error message and update failure. Also, the cable

was not an issue for me as I was using a USB-A to Lightening on both PC's

I had several abortive attempts to restore the iPad using

Apple Devices after the failed update. Yet iTunes, supposedly an older app on

its way out, sorted it first time. Is there something wrong with Apple Devices

and was this the issue?

Should I keep iTunes as I have been considering dumping it for Apple Music, which I run on my

other devices.

If you are experiencing difficulties restoring your iPad, start here:

If you can't update or restore your iPad - Apple Support

iTunes for Windows has been superseded by the newer Apple Devices App. You should note that for recent devices, you may not be able to use iTunes for Windows to restore the device - but must instead use the newer Apple Devices App. This App is not compatible with Windows 7/8, but requires Windows 10 or Windows 11.
