iPhone 13 Pro max stopped allowing call on other devices - iPad pro.

Prior to the last few updates, I could answer phone calls on my iPad Pro. It stopped doing several weeks back.

Apple suggest making sure same Wi-Fi, facetime on both devices and going into cellualr and selecting calls on other devices. Did that but get error message - Facetime and iCloud must be signed in to same Apple Account - they are! I even updated the Password, made sure new PW is applied to all devices, still get same error. My wife's phone and ipad have calls on other devices "on" as I guess I used to.

Any ideas what the issue is?

Given everything that you have tried already, if your iPad is not operating as expected, begin with a forced-restart - as this will often clear an isolated software issue:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

If the problem persists after performing the restart, it may be necessary to reset your iPad settings. While this reset will not cause any loss of data, as a precaution, it is always wise to ensure that you have a current iCloud or iTunes backup before performing the reset:

When you are happy to proceed, you can perform the reset from iPad settings:

Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset All Settings

If the problem still doesn’t clear, the next step is to reset the iPad to factory settings:

If the problem remains unresolved, you may need to repeat the process with your iPhone.

Otherwise, you would be best advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to assist with troubleshooting:

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, that's one of the first things I tried.

  1. According to my phone "calls on other devices" is Off and will not turn off and instead gives the message above. What it has to do with Facebook is beyond me.
  2. Strangely, calls are routed to my apple watch, that is both ring and show prospective caller. I don't care about the watch and would like to turn that off. I've now shutdown the watch and will see if it changes anything. (Nope no change)
  3. Every other day or so, I'm prompted to enter my password for my Outlook account on my iPhone, but when I click on edit I'm not taken to my email account and outlook still works.
  4. Phone, iPad and watch are beside each other while checking this.

Any other ideas are appreciated.

New comment: Facetime and iCloud must be signed in to same account how do I 100% check that - I only have one apple account so if I'm signed in to Facebook and iCloud, what else could I check.

You say several confusing if not contradictory things above:

If it’s “off”, naturally is will not turn “off”. It’s already off!

Being signed I to Facebook is completely irrelevant. FaceTime, not Facebook, matters.

  • Check Settings > [your Apple Account]. That’s the Apple Account you should be using.
  • Scroll down in that area to be certain your other devices appear.
  • Check Settings > Apps > Phone > Allow Calls on Other Devices.

Hmm, thanks for the correction on Facetime I'm fairly certain that signed in to the same apple ID but I will check.

My point that didn't get a comment was that if calls on other devices is OFF, why does the call go to my Apple watch? While I try to check what you mention the watch is turned completely off.

Apart from the Facetime check all devices I would want to use including apple ear pods, watch and hearing aids are listed as either connected or not connected in the BT list.

The problem with linking call / texts to my iPad occurred before I got my Sennheiser hearing aids, but I will try turning those off since I don't wear them all the time.

The other strangeness is that although I have sounds and haptics turned on for keyboard feedback (sound) and text tone my phone doesn't play any sound.

OK my watch is turned off.

I can access Facetime and iCloud on both iPhone and iPad - Can I conclude they are logged into the same Apple account? I only have the one.

I still get the same error message.

Next, I will turn off my hearing aids.

After that I will try paging through my wife's phone setup - we are both on the same IOS but other devices is ON for her and calls show up on her iPad.

I tried all of your suggestions, to no avail.

I spent an hour on a chat with Apple and the strange thing was that after even resets and restores, my options for location of messages and phone were not the same as the help desk instructions. They referred me to by phone help.

The lady was amazing in her knowledge, but couldn't explain why my options were different, she then asked for control over the phone and pad and by accessing "apps" we found the options she wanted to verify and change. Sucess!

Basically she said my phone was not signed in to all 3 options required .

  1. Phone number,
  2. email
  3. iCloud account.

Selecting also iCloud then enabled me to share text and calls to my iPad.

We had no idea why that changed, since it previously worked, but I suspect one of the IOS updates was the culprit since my wife and I both notice some defaults change after updates.

Thanks for you help. Perhaps this thread may help others.
