Time machine stopped backing up Excel

I just noticed Time machine stopped backing up Excel spreadsheet on my macbook pro using 10.13.6. It's backed up until March 2022 and then stopped for some reason. It's backing up everything else including Numbers spreadsheet. Actually is just seems to be a particular spreadsheet where I track my bill paying. Other Excel spreadsheets are backing up OK.

Is that file in a different folder, location, etc than the others? For example, is it stored locally, on your Mac, in the same folder as all others, or does it reside on some cloud storage system? The latter won't be backed up.

Discuss how it became apparent that file is not being backed up. For example, does Excel offer the equivalent of versioning such as Numbers or similar Apple programs, in which you can browse earlier versions of that document, and restore them?

There is a way to exclude certain items from being backed up by Time Machine, but presumably you would know if you had reason to do that: Exclude files from a Time Machine backup on Mac - Apple Support. There is an even more obscure way of excluding items, files or even parts of files that will not appear in that list. If you think that's a possibility worth exploring please let me know.
