Hundreds of my newly added songs are suddenly marked 'ineligible' iCloud status

Apple Music crashed on my laptop. Now hundreds of my songs are marked 'ineligible' iCloud status. Most of the songs are recent additions, within the last year or so. I'm panicked because I'm super detailed in keeping my 20-year-old library organized.

Why the 'ineligible' iCloud status message:

  1. Home Music: you've added
  2. Purchased: by a different Apple ID

Add from iCloud Library:

  1. Go to: File menu
  2. Hover over: Library
  3. Select: Upload iCloud Library

Ended your Apple Music Plan:

You may have ended your Apple Music Subscription. So, to get it to sync across iCloud, you'd purchase an Apple Music Subscription.

Not Backed Up in a Time Machine Backup:

Did you ever create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac? If so, dig trough it using finder, seeing if you can find this file: ~/Music/Music/Music Library.musiclibrary. Export it, and then move it to the same location as your current library.

The most common reason that tracks are marked as ineligible is that they are purchases made with a different Apple ID than that used for your Apple Music/iTunes Match subscription. Have you changed the email address associated with the Apple ID at any point? Do the tracks in question play correctly in your library? Are they purchases? You might try right-clicking one and see if Add to Library is there in the context menu, and if so does clicking that allow the track to be matched/uploaded?

Thank you for the suggestions but none of them apply to this situation. I had zero ineligible songs the morning Apple Music (iTunes) crashed. When I reopen it I had hundreds of them.

After digging deeper I have also uncovered that a lot of the music I uploaded is no longer available after the crash, some of them extremely rare and unavailable outside my collection.

As I mentioned, I have been using iTunes since its birth. We’re talking thousands and thousands of hours devoted to keeping my library in perfect shape. I am an expert at fixing similar issues. This one has me stumped and heartbroken.

I may be able to find some of my own music looking through very old backups. Unfortunately I started using iTunes Match a few years ago which is promoted as an ironclad backup solution. Apparently it's not.

While digging into my library further I discovered that some of my uploaded music is now duplicated or triplicated. This is true for most of my 'ineligible' music. So now I need to check all 813 ineligible songs to make sure they have a duplicate that has the correct iCloud status. I could leave them there but I download my entire library onto my phone. The duplicates take up a metric ton of space.
