What is it that you really want? Filters just show different groups, they don't have anything to do with storage space on the phone.

Photos on the iPhone has a filter to show only pictures that came from somewhere else, or to show only screenshots, or to show only pictures that haven't be assigned to an album but, unfortunately, so far there is not "taken with this phone's camera" filter. You can ask Apple to provide this filter, here:

Feedback - Photos - Apple

Short of erasing stuff, the best way to save Photos storage space is to use iCloud's "Optimize Storage." This can save more than 80% of the storage space for pictures while causing little noticeable effect.

Apparently the problem is the "sync" method. There isn't any good reason for you to get low resolution copies. Those are sub-standard pictures are shown in Photos, but they aren't really "owned" by Photos-- so you can't edit or even delete them. Since I use iCloud, I haven't used a cable to transfer pictures in years, but that's crazy. You don't say what sort of computer you're using…

Really, that's another advantage of using iCloud. Transfers are automatic and have way more quality. And the Optimize option saves lots of space. We can offer advice, if you want.

Sorry english is not my native language. I may have not explain correctly. If I go to photos, in the library you see all the pictures, the ones synched from the Mac (they use less space) and the ones taken with that phone and these are full size. So for a same picture that has not been deleted from the phone, you see it twice. but only the full size will have the bin symbol to delete it. the ones synched cannot be erased.

In the olds IOS versions there was an pre-define album called Camera roll I think it was, which used to gather all the pictures that you can erase. that's what I miss now.

I agree with you that iCloud is the best method but my photo library is almost 500Gb already and frankly Apple prices for storage are too high. 10€/month for 2Tb and no option for 1Tb

Google charges $20 for 2TB although there is a discount if you pay annually and they do offer more free storage.

Dropbox is $9.99 for 2TB.

Neither seem to offer 1 TB plans.

Ahh-- so Apple's prices aren't so crazy! I hadn't really seen anything I especially liked out there.

But I wasn't thinking about storage; I was thinking of the ease and quality of use in getting all the information in a Photos Library transferred between devices. iCloud stores more than pictures-- there is information in the database that just isn't included in storage in other sites.

It's important to note that we don't use iCloud for backup. DropBox would be better for that. Local disk drives are way better for that. We use iCloud to automatically share pictures between our phones, iPads, and computers, and to be able to access our stuff on any computer anywhere.

As to terabytes of storage-- you don't have to include every picture you've ever taken in iCloud synchronization. For iCloud I have a Favorites Library for the pictures that I would want to share with others, and that's less than 200 GB. If it gets too big, I'll have to decide if my opinion of some of the Favorites might need to downgraded.
