eSIM not receiving SMS – iMessage won’t activate (iPhone 15)
Hi everyone,
I'm currently living in Chile until December and using an iPhone 15 with an eSIM from my local provider. I can send SMS with no issues, but I’m not receiving any SMS, not even verification codes or messages from other phones (like my dad’s). I only received 2 messages when I first activated the line (one from the provider and one or two from Apple), but since then, nothing else has come through.
Because of this, iMessage and FaceTime won’t activate with my Chilean number, it just says “An error occurred during activation.” or fails completely. I’ve already tried:
- Toggling iMessage and FaceTime off and on
- Restarting the phone
- Resetting network settings
- Confirming my number is correctly set in the settings
- Using stable Wi-Fi and cellular data
- Changing the iPhone region to Chile
- Making sure I can send SMS (I can!)
I reached out to my provider, and they said everything seems to be in order. They even restarted or refreshed the number on their end, but the issue remains.
I previously used an eSIM from Honduras with no problems, iMessage activated immediately.
Has anyone experienced this kind of issue before? Could it be a provisioning or SMS routing problem? Any suggestions on how to fix it or what else I could ask the provider to do (like issuing a new QR, reprovisioning, or checking the SMSC)?
