Unable to find missing emails in Apple Mail on Mac and iPhone

I own a vps that runs my own mail server. I use apple mail on my macbook and iphone

the problem:

when I logon via roundcube webmail I have found that I missed around 400 emails of different dates, not only the latest, from various different months. It was like simply ignored by Apple Mail.

I’ve tryed another mail client called Canary Mail and it shows the missing messages normally.

I think this is a mail app bug.
