DashLane extension for FireFox not working properly on Apple Silicon machines

A month ago I purchased a Apple Studio Max 4, I was very happy with the performance. I use FCP and Photoshop and develop on this Mac. So that's a real joy. But there are some things I really don't like. The silicon machines quite obviously have serious sleep issues. Some searching online confirm this behaviour I see on my mac. It is in my opinion by design, references to "sleep" are being renamed, the pulsating sleep light is gone and more things like that. I guess I have to live with that. The same goes for the mediaanalysisd that is constantly "watching my interaction with media" , 8 to 10 hours a day while not sleeping. Already I have been busy for 2 weeks how I can disable the mediaanalysisd without turning of SIP. The answer is you can't, I am no longer in control of my own mac. So I am happy with the performance, but there a very serious issues.

One of them is the DashLane extension in FireFox, my default browser. The last week I have been battling this extension to properly work again. I have done a lot of searching and eventually send this mail to DashLane support. I am sure there are more people using Apple Silicon macs that use FireFox and have 2FA enabled. Maybe you have found the solution I have been now looking for a week. And maybe you want to share it here. Here is the text of the email I have sent to DashLane:

I want to report an unworkable situation with the DashLane extension for FireFox on Apple silicon machines.

For some two weeks, every time I quit FireFox or FireFox is updated I have to reinstall DashLane.

I have done lots of searching on the Internet and found out I am not the only one.

What happens if I restart FF because I have to, I need of course log in to DashLane again. I have 2FA enabled so I have to use an authentication token. But is impossible to enter the code in the window, input is disabled and the styling of the input box is different from the working input fields. The only available option I have is “Use Recovery Key” and even this option doesn’t work.

So every time I must deinstall the extension, quit FF, reinstall and then I can login again. I don’t think this is how I want my user experience to be. As I already mentioned I have done a lot and I mean really a lot investigation about this issue and I can see that for years FF has been plagued with similar issues. To be honest I have never had any issues and was (yes, was) quite happy with DashLane until I got my new silicon mac.

I did a clean install which of course took it’s time to be able to rule out any corruption of my old machine.

What did I do to troubleshoot?

I uninstalled all extensions and only left DashLane, that did not work.

I removed my device from synced devices via the Mozilla site , exported my bookmarks in json format.

Deleted my Profles folder in ~/Application Support, downloaded and installed a fresh FF.

From my iPad I logged into DashLane, went to Settings, Activity and deleted my Apple Studio desktop machine.

Installed the DashLane extension as first and only extension and I am back into the same ****.

My problem could maybe resolved by turning of 2FA, but I can’t and and don’t want to do that. I have lots of passwords from customers who trust me with their passwords. I want be as safe as I can and having my passwords online is already quite on issue for me. And if accessing my data is made almost impossible than I might have to seriously look for an alternative.

These problems don’t present itself on Safari and Brave (Chromium), so it really looks like DashLane is not willing to fix the extension, or not being able to make the extension work on FF on Apple Silicon. Both options don’t make me really happy.

All my other extensions work flawless, but the most important one, my password manager, does barely work. Because for me removing and reinstalling every time is totally unacceptable as a solution. How can I trust my password manager that can’t even develop a working extension for my browser? I am a webdeveloper, I have about 600 passwords stored, it is impossible to work like this. I want to keep using FF, I have my reasons to do so. Please tell me if you have abandoned FF, then I can move on with another password manager that is able to develop a working extension for FF.

And don’t tell me you haven’t heard of this bug, I will attach a screenshot from a search in Google: "bug dashlane firefox macos apple slicon”,

Please read the attached FIRST AI answer from Google.

The bug I encounter is not on the iOS platform.

Yes I have actually, I click on more links than just the outdated links you post. I will try to explain it once more. DashLane is a good password manager that has served me good for many years. As I use FireFox as my browser (and want to keep using) a disfunctional Dashlane extension on my new Apple Silicon Studio is a big problem and I am in the process of solving it. That means posting, asking, doing research. My problem and other peoples problems with the FireFox/Dashlane/Silicon combination are clearly caused by an incompatibility in the code for Silicon by DashLane. I have posted the email I have send to DashLane in my opening post. But my question is not who’s fault a problem is. My question is more do more people have this problem and is there maybe a work-around or even better a solution. And once again this being a Silicon only environment is a good place to ask. So far the only reactions I did receive are quite defensive, Level 10 members without any input regarding the question. Quite defensive indeed. The good news is DashLane answered my email and asked more information and screenshots. That’s what I call a positive reaction.

If you read my post, you can read that I am very well aware it is a DashLane problem. But in this part of the forum all readers have Apple Silicon machines. I am looking for solutions and with a population of all Silicon users this is a good place to look for answers.

Honestly I don't understand your reaction, more than half of this forum is about not or less functioning 3rd party devices or software that do not do what they should do. That's one of the reasons I visit this discussions forum. A lot of problems have been solved in corporation.

<< Have you read the reviews on MacRumours and Mozilla? >.

¿Are those review of the actual current product, first made available in Dec 2024? I find many product reviews are posted by people who can not follow simple directions -- like you have to ALLOW it to access your passwords, or it ain't gonna work.

<< DashLane works fine and can do more than just saving passwords. >>

¿Then why are you posting here saying it does NOT work?

Some posted that a third-party tool was not Apple's to fix, and you should continue to pressure the Developer.

I posted information about an alternative -- a genuine Apple tool you could use instead. You responded that it was badly reviewed.

I tried to suggest the reviews might not be truly indicative of the tool's abilities, and you told me Dashlane is wonderful and I was being too defensive.

This formal written medium makes it very difficult to read motivations. Sometimes wireheads like me are just blunt, not defensive.

Readers will take the time and energy to respond when they feel they have something to add, and not otherwise. At this writing, there are 118 unique viewers and 9 responses. if you are not getting loads of options suggested to you, maybe it's because the most appropriate solutions have already been mentioned.
