Orange text and random underlines issue in Notes after Mac migration
Hi folks,
this thread relates to another thread of mine previously posted on the forum: "How to change orange text back to black in Notes". As I learned that some users who transferred data from an older to a new Mac (in my case from a 2017 Intel-based iMac to a 2023 iMac with Apple silicon) experience this (random words unchangeably coloured orange and random erroneous error underscores), I just want to summarize my findings here, inconclusive as they are:
I've been trying for three days on this forum (thanks again to VikingOSX!) and for two days with Apple tech support (with special mention of Elizabeth, my first senior adviser!) to find a solution to the problem but all to no avail. Everything conceivable has been tried, the last remaining advises are "to wait till some future OS-update may quietly disappear the problem" or else "to use third-party note-taking software" if said problems in Notes are felt to be too much of a nuisance (I don't want to use a third-party Notes app.).
I do not expect miracles from this support community, nor from Apple tech support. But it vexes me that Apple tech support's senior advisers appear to be rather nonchalant about the problem in question and do not keep ownership of a case for a personalized followup, which makes that each time I phone them, I am referred to a new senior adviser who goes through the already tried and tested motions with me. Be that as it may, only the first senior adviser concluded that said problem with Notes may well be an OS-level bug, so she asked me to upload a screen shot, a screen recording of our last attempt to solve the problem, and a CaptureData.dmg for consideration of engineering. Unfortunately, Apple's gigafiles transfer gets stuck after 90% for both large files, only the screen shot uploads, which isn't helpful (for what it's worth, I read online that some gigafiles uploads get routinely stuck if the upload speed is not at least 10 mbps - mine is between 4-5 mbps). When we then tried the unorthodox method of sending the files as email attachments, the large files exceeded the size permitted by the ISP and could hence not be send. Zipping the files didn't change this either. All of which leaves me with a seemingly unresolvable and annoying stylistic/chromatic issue in Notes with all help exhausted and without recourse to submitting analytical documentation that may help Apple's engineers to find a solution. My requests to suggest another way of submitting the files have gone unanswered. My impression is that if a senior adviser does not solve a case on the first go, chances are that the case gets stuck in limbo, especially if crucial documentation cannot be provided.
I'll once more consult a senior adviser of Apple's tech support, but, frankly, I don't have high hopes. Else, I am out of my wits and left to my own devices. One thing I still consider is to backup my notes in plain text, then delete all Notes folders in Containers (which should remove all content and formatting in Notes), then reboot and populate Notes anew from my backup. Below an example of some Notes text in question.
Any thoughts anyone?
