missing images in messages after 18.6 iOS update iPhone 13

First time updating my iPhone 13 in years, and now after doing this update, many of my images in messages are missing and replaced by some sort of icon which shows the image size and type...I have tried various fixes but nothing has worked...if I tap the icon, the image will appear, but once I cancel out the icon reappears and picture is missing....I have never had this problem before.......perhaps someone else has a reliable fix for this?....Thank you.
