Correct.

Raw support has to be added for each camera model individually. Adding raw support does not seem to be a priority these days for Apple. So, some cameras are never supported, some partially supported and some fully so.

Options: Convert the raws to DNG with Adobe's free converter.

or

Use a third party app to manage these (and if you wish) all you photos. Apps like Adobe's Lightroom and Lightroom Classic, CaptureOne, DxO Photo Lab, Mylio and others have their own raw support and tend to be faster and more complete in the support they offer, but then they ought to be as you pay for them. Also consider the software that the maker of your camera recommends, which is most likely free and there are also open source options too.

The currently supported camera models are listet here: Digital camera RAW formats supported by iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and visionOS 2 - Apple Support

The Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II is supported on iOS18, but with a restriction, see footnote 2: "Excluding RAW images taken using High Res Shot".

Which system version are you using? The support for OM-D E-M5 Mark II is showing in all RAW Support lists since iOS 11 and macOS High Sierra.

O.K. After only two months there is still hope that Apple will support the camera with one the next system upgrades. Typically the Raw support will be released within six month or up to a year after a new camera model is on the market. Adobe is usually faster than Apple to offer RAW support. While you are waiting you may want to use the RAW delevelopement software that came with your camera.

"released 2 months ago and still no Apple support for Raw files. "

Thanks, I got quite a laugh from that!

Your best bet, as léonie advised, is to use Olympus' free OM Workshop RAW software. It's good to see what Olympus thinks you should be doing.

As Yer_Man suggested, Adobe's free Digital Negative (DNG) converter makes universally acceptable RAW picture files. This is the format that Lightroom uses when it creates a new (edited) RAW file, and Apple and Photos supports it. Oddly, I didn't find any information about what camera formats the converter supports, but it may become available for your camera before anywhere else.

Thanks; I didn't see that link. I figured support would happen for DNG at the same time, but ?

I saw this at that link:

Why doesn’t my version of Photoshop or Lightroom support my camera?

I includes this:

If your camera came out within the past 90 days and it’s not on the list of supported cameras, be patient, as you may need to wait for compatibility.

This seems appropriate, here.
