Display goes extremely dim or just plain black when plugging in magsafe charger-happens randomly

Whenever I plug in my magsafe charger on mac, the display starts up on just a black screen and is only fixed by a restart or it just turns out really dim, and turning up brightness has no effect on the screen brightness. The only fix I found was unplugging the charger, and closing the lid where the display turned bright again, however it did not go to lock screen automatically as it usually does. However when I replug the charger after the fix it works normally. It mostly happens when I plug in the charger when the lid is closed. My mac is m3 macbook air, 16gb battery health is 97 percent. Magsafe charger. Macos sequoia.

That is weird, have you tried to boot the Mac in the safe mode to see if the issues persist?

  1. Shut down your Mac: Choose Apple menu > Shut Down.
  2. Press and hold power button: Press and hold the power button until you see "Loading startup options".
  3. Select your startup disk: Choose your startup disk (e.g., "Macintosh HD").
  4. Press and hold Shift: Press and hold the Shift key, then click "Continue in Safe Mode".
  5. Verify Safe Mode: You'll see "Safe Boot" in the menu bar, or you can check "System Information" as described above.
