MacBook Air (2020, Intel) will not boot

Macbook (Sequoia 15.5) does not turn on when I open lid or press power button. After I hold power button 10 seconds and then wait few seconds (power cycle), and then press power button, one of the following happens:

Screen turns on briefly and then Macbook turns off;

Apple Icon appears briefly, and then Macbook turns off;

1 or 2 will repeat many times spontaneously until I repeat power cycle to turn off MacBook;

If I repeat power cycle and attempt to restart with R or Command-R held down, MacBook boots to Connecting to Internet REcovery and after I select WiFi and Password, it eventually shuts down without conecting.

ALl the above done with nothing connected except power cable and also with nothing connected.

Any suggestions before going to Apple for repair are welcome
