Too late, I realized that my phone started saving photos as HEIC instead of jpegs after a software update. I don't use any other apple products, so I figured out how to change the setting to compatible. But, I now have thousands of photos in HEIC format that I need to save to Dropbox as jpegs. How do I do that?

The easiest way to I have found to do this, is to Select the Photos in the Photos App, tap on share, then on Copy Photos.
Exit out of the Photos app, and open the Files App, and navigate to Dropbox, then press and hold on an empty space in the folder you want to pasted them into, and tap on Paste.
It should convert them to jpegs then.
Select pictures, then Share>Options>Most Compatible.
But why? HEIC is not an Apple thing-- it's MPEG, and it's been around for years. Any modern image viewer should handle it. (Except Adobe, apparently.)
I've actually never encountered heic files before, and no program on my computer will open them, that's all!
Unfortunately, I tried what you suggested, and it didn't work. They still share as heic.
